Filled With God’s Power

Monday, May 28th, 2012

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7

God is not looking for human wit or personal charm. He is looking for available, willing, and yielded vessels. He is looking for people who will connect to Him and be willing to serve Him through their lifetime. Regardless of how you may feel right now, God wants to use you for great things. He wants to get you positioned, poised, and prepared for what He has ahead.

In the Bible, we read about how God used many people who were plagued by personal insecurity. Gideon said, “I’m the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15). Moses said, “I stutter—use someone else” (Exodus 4:10). Isaiah said, “I am a man of unclean lips” (Isaiah 6:5). Peter said, “Depart from me—I’m a sinful man” (Luke 5:8). Yet, God used them powerfully. God is so faithful that even when you’re tired, exhausted, or distracted, He will come in and pour out His Spirit.

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

You are from God! No matter what you are facing, the source of all power is linked up to your life. I pray you’ll rise up out of oppression and realize the devil has been lying to you—that he is in fact defeated. Because of what Jesus accomplished on the Cross, you can draw near (Hebrews 4:16); you are rescued from darkness (Colossians 1:13); and no weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17)!

You can pray and God will change the course of nations. You can serve and leave a lingering effect long after you are gone. The Greater One who lives in you is more than enough for your kids and your business. He’s more than enough to direct your motivation and help you with the next steps of obedience. So stay ready. Stay filled with the Holy Spirit and cultivate a tender and receptive heart. He will take your earthen vessel and fill it with wisdom, power, and the knowledge of His will!

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives. Colossians 1:9

Opportunities & Open Doors

Monday, May 21st, 2012

A wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Corinthians 16:9

God’s kingdom is filled with opportunities and open doors. Like the early church, we are called into significance, and the sustaining power of God is just as intact in the 21st century as it was in the 1st. We live in a fallen world with troubles and challenges, but we have been given authority and victory through Jesus.

For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us. 2 Corinthians 1:8-10

Paul was burdened for Asia Minor (present day Turkey). When Paul and Timothy encountered great resistance, where they despaired even of life, it was in the context of great potential—of Asia opening up to the Gospel. Earlier, Paul tried to go there but “the Spirit of Jesus had forbidden him” (Acts 16:6). Timing was everything. Eventually Paul taught in the school of Tyrannus for a two-year period. The result: all of Asia heard the Gospel (Acts 19:9-10).

God has given us the responsibility to carry life-changing truth to a harsh and broken world. You may not feel any indication of what God is getting ready to do through you. It may feel the exact opposite of an opportunity or open door. You can’t make it in your own power, but you can trust in the past, present, and future delivering power of God. If God can raise the dead, then He can surely help you.

He has delivered you. He is delivering you. And He will deliver you.

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write . . . “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Revelation 3:7-8

What God does to you, He wants to do through you. When you understand how much God loves you, you can carry that love to the world. When you understand the authority you’ve been given, you can exert it to change desperate situations. While the world is on a search for significance, we know that we are created to trust in, rely on, and walk with the Lord. Open up your heart and set your hope on Jesus. As you follow Him, you will walk through the doors He opens.

God is faithful!

Let Us Draw Near

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus . . . LET US draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith. Hebrews 10:19, 22a

LET US hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, LET US also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and LET US run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

LET US consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24

LET US press on to maturity. Hebrews 6:1b

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, LET US hold fast our confession. Hebrews 4:14

Therefore LET US draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Getting Wisdom

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:5

When we look into the Word we see this element called wisdom that will make us strong. The Greek word for wisdom is sophia, and it’s defined as “insight into the true nature of things.” Wisdom helps to differentiate between a good idea, a better idea, and the best idea.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

God loves to pour out wisdom on people who seek Him with a heart of faith. You can pray about wisdom for every area of your life: for your kids, for your career, for when to buy or not to buy a house, during times of disaster, or when your brain is feeling numb. And God will give it to you!

But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:30

Jesus is the embodiment of wisdom. He knows all things, and in Him we can do all things (Philippians 4:13). Want an increased flow of wisdom in your life? Dive into Proverbs. Develop an understanding of the New Testament. Spend time with Jesus. He is the most wonderful being that has ever been.

Today is a new beginning. You’ve never been where you are now. But all your life experiences inform you and develop you and prepare you for credibility, for contact, for unimaginable impact. Maybe you don’t feel worthy or believe you have what it takes to pull it off. Don’t quit! You are destined for something very fruitful, effective, and significant. And wisdom will make you ready.

Get wisdom,
